![]() ![]() GOLEM, and other M4s with the 75mm main gun, were often used in infantry support and breakthrough roles and fired high explosive, armor piercing and white phosphorous rounds. That allowed for a greater ability to track targets while on the move. They were used in the same role, or in limited direct support roles. The Sherman was one of the most widely used Allied tanks and one of the first to feature a gyroscopic-stabilized gun and sight. The Sherman tank was the most commonly used American tank in World War II. Eventually GOLEM made its way to the U.S. Research indicates GOLEM may have been in service in Portugal after the war, where many Grizzlys were used operationally until the 1990s.
